There are some moments from 2012 that I just couldn't bring myself to blog about until now...months later. Even now, I get a heavy feeling inside, just remembering. The fire is one of those times. That is our neighborhood in this picture. We were evacuated for 2 weeks, 2 days. We didn't know if we still had our home or not...for days and days. Cannot adequately describe all the feelings and emotions from those days in June. But, when we were finally allowed back and found our house still intact, we were so very grateful. On the flip side, every time we would drive up and down our streets and see the devastation, our hearts hurt for the people represented by the 250 homes that were lost. And, two lives lost...about 2-3 blocks away from us.

This is the view from the retirement home where my dad lived, just before we helped him to evacuate.

Our neighbors' house right behind us. Their house is still under re-construction.
|
Views like this everywhere.

Flying W Ranch, a Colorado Springs tourist destination for 50+ years, completely burned to the ground
It's encouraging now to see all the houses going up around our neighborhood...new ones sprouting up all over...signs of renewal and restoration.
